Windows 11 24H2 Support Ends Oct 13, 2026: Update to 25H2
Windows 11 version 24H2 Home and Pro stop getting security updates on October 13, 2026. Check your version in 10 seconds and move to 25H2, a small update that installs like a normal patch.
1. Check your version
Press Windows + R, type winver and press Enter. If it says Version 24H2 (or older), you need to update. Enterprise and Education editions of 24H2 are supported until October 12, 2027.
Win + R -> winver
2. Update to 25H2
Open Settings > Windows Update and click Check for updates. When you see Windows 11, version 25H2 is ready, click Download and install. 25H2 installs as an enablement package on top of 24H2, so it usually needs only one restart.
Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates
Windows 11, version 25H2 > Download and install
3. Restart and confirm
Restart when asked, then run winver again. It should now show Version 25H2.
winver # Version 25H2
4. If 25H2 doesn't show up
Install all pending updates first and restart, then check again. Some PCs get it in waves; you can also use the Windows 11 Installation Assistant from microsoft.com/software-download/windows11.
FAQ
What happens if I stay on 24H2 after October 13, 2026?
Your PC keeps working, but Home and Pro editions stop receiving monthly security updates, so new vulnerabilities stay unpatched.
Will updating to 25H2 delete my files?
No. 25H2 is an in-place feature update; files and apps stay. Back up anyway before any major update.
