Update Your iPhone Now (and Turn On Automatic Security Updates)
Apple's latest updates fix a CoreGraphics flaw that could let a malicious image or file run code on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. Update now and turn on automatic security responses so the next fix installs itself.
1. Update now
Open Settings > General > Software Update and install the latest version. Plug in and use Wi-Fi.
Settings > General > Software Update
2. Turn on automatic updates
In the same screen tap Automatic Updates and turn on everything, including Security Responses & System Files, which installs urgent fixes without a full update.
Software Update > Automatic Updates: ALL ON
3. Mac
On a Mac: System Settings > General > Software Update.
System Settings > General > Software Update
4. Restart now and then
A restart clears many in-memory attacks. Restarting once a week is a good habit.
FAQ
Why update right away?
Security updates fix flaws attackers already know about. The longer you wait, the longer you're exposed.
My iPhone can't update to the latest iOS. What now?
Install the latest update offered for your model; Apple often ships security fixes for older iOS versions too. Very old phones that get no updates should be replaced for banking and email.
