How to Report Scam Texts: Forward Them to 7726

7726 is a free number US carriers use to collect scam and spam texts. Here is how to use it in five seconds.

1. What 7726 is

It spells SPAM on a phone keypad. Major US carriers use the reports to find and block scam senders.

2. Forward the text

Long-press the scam message, tap Forward (More, then the arrow on iPhone), and send it to 7726.

3. Answer the follow-up

Your carrier may reply asking for the sender's number. Send it.

4. Clean up

Delete the message and block the sender. Never tap the link or reply STOP to an obvious scam.

5. Lost money?

Also report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov and call your bank.
