iPhone Duo Screen Cracks: What Owners Report and What Apple Says
A week after launch, some iPhone Duo owners say the inner folding screen cracked. Here is what is confirmed, what is still a theory, and what to do if it happens to yours.
1. The launch
The iPhone Duo went on sale October 23, 2026 at $1,999 and sold out within minutes.
2. What owners report
A crunching sound from the hinge, then a crack or a black line across the inner screen, sometimes after only a few days or a few dozen folds. Some report a white patch on the right side.
3. What Apple says
Apple told Bloomberg it is "aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units" and asks affected owners to contact AppleCare for a replacement. It has not shared a number or a cause.
4. The theories
iFixit's teardown suggests stress where internal support edges overlap near the hinge, a hinge that sticks, or grit in the hinge. None is confirmed.
5. What to do
If it cracks, stop folding it, take photos and contact AppleCare. Follow Apple's care guide: nothing inside when you close it, keep the hinge free of sand, and don't peel the screen's top layer. Out of warranty, an inner screen costs about $1,000.
