Android Theft Detection Lock: Your Phone Locks Itself If Snatched

Google's theft protection can lock your Android phone when someone grabs it and runs, or when it goes offline after being stolen. Turn it on in 15 seconds.

1. Open theft protection

Go to Settings > Google > All services > Theft protection. Menu names vary a little by phone; you can also search Settings for theft.

Settings > Google > All services > Theft protection

2. Turn on Theft Detection Lock

Uses motion sensing to spot a snatch-and-run and locks the screen right away.

Theft Detection Lock: On

3. Turn on Offline Device Lock

Locks the screen if the phone is cut off from the network for a while, so a thief cannot hide it from Find My Device.

Offline Device Lock: On

4. Know your remote lock

If the phone is stolen, Remote Lock at android.com/lock locks it with just your phone number, then use Find Hub (Find My Device) to locate or erase it.
